Control Circuit 2026 › Before You Begin
Two things worth knowing before you draw a single wire.
Most of what you will learn in the Tutorial is about how to use the program. These two are about something bigger: what happens to your work. They shape the whole design of Control Circuit, and they are the reason a project you finish today is still a project you can use in ten years’ time.
Picture it. It is some years from now. A customer rings: the plant needs a modification, and could you dig out the drawings? The symbol library you drew from has since been replaced. The component database was on a laptop that is long gone.
With Control Circuit, that does not matter. Open the project and every symbol is exactly as you left it, with its graphics, its pins and its Tag Seed. Every component still carries its part number, its manufacturer and its description. The Sheet already holds all of it, so there is nothing to go and find, and nothing to go missing.
That is why the program only offers actions such as Update Selected Symbol from Library as something you choose to do, when the library is still to hand and you want the newer version. Control Circuit will never quietly change an existing drawing because a library moved on underneath it.
What this means for you: archive a finished project and you have archived the whole thing. Hand it to a colleague, or to a customer, and it opens the same on their machine as it did on yours.
XML (Extensible Markup Language) is just text with a clear structure. This is a small piece of a real Sheet, the embedded definition of a terminal symbol:
<Symbol id="TERM_DECK3_6P_AB_MB_TB_V"
name="3-Deck Terminal A/MA/TA/TB/MB/B Vert"
category="Terminals" tagSeed="X"
componentType="Terminal Block"
librarySource="TERMS_BASIC">
<BoundingBox width="5" height="30" y="-2.5" />
<Pins>
<Pin id="A" label="A" x="0" y="0" direction="West" />
<Pin id="MA" label="MA" x="0" y="5" direction="West" />
...
You can read it, and so can any tool you already own. That brings some real advantages.
What this means for you: you are never locked in. The information in your designs is always reachable, with or without Control Circuit.
With those two ideas in mind, you are ready to start. Begin the Tutorial, or go back to the installation guide if you have not set up yet.
